ford plant interesting

Post by ron74887 »

hope you can open the movie- if not copy and paste :!: :?: Ron
B-24

Henry Ford was determined that he could mass produce bombers just as he had done with cars. He built the Willow Run assembly plant and proved it.. It was the world's largest building under one roof, even then FORD HAD A BETTER IDEA!

This film will absolutely blow you away - one B-24 every 55 minutes. ADOLF HITLER HAD NO IDEA THE U.S. WAS CAPABLE OF THIS KIND OF THING. There is no way he could have even guessed.

For those who live outside of Michigan , Willow Run is near Bellville, Canton and Ypsilanti , MI

It's amazing that one B-24 came off the assembly line every 55 minutes

Take a few minutes to watch this snapshot of history.

Ron,

That is a great video. Thanks for posting it. Look how fast they buit those wheras today it takes months to build even one single engine general aviation airplane.

I notice that this old film doesn't mention at all the problems they had with the early production models from the Ford plant.
It took quite a while to get production of satisfactory airplanes completed. They had a lot of growing pains to overcome.
Charles Lindberg worked there as a consultant during the start up and early production time.

Interesting film. I enjoyed it. Wonder what the production rate was at its height in the Consolidated Plant in Fort Worth?
