I read that we have 1200 plus active members owning 979. Cessna 170 s..
Does this make us the largest tail wheel organization in the World ?
I know we are the greatest but are we the largest?
Regards

Re: Tail Wheel Organization
No we are not if you are just counting Type Clubs in general. The Cub Club has somewhere around 4000 members last time I saw a number and I'll bet they own more Cubs between them than we own 170s.

Re: Tail Wheel Organization
Does the Cessna 120/140 Club have more or less planes than us?

Re: Tail Wheel Organization
Why don't we consider a Cessna Tailwheel Pilot's Association? We can have a web-site with links to type specific aircraft. There is some buzz on the 120/140 site about a Cessna tailwheel fly-in next summer in Wichita.

Re: Tail Wheel Organization
The International Cessna 120 140 Association list their membership number at 1400.
The International Cessna 195 Club lists their membership number at 1032
The International 180-185 Club is at 1018.
The Cub Club lists 3000 as their number.
Couldn't find a number for the Luscombe Association, the International Comanche Society or the Short Wing Piper Association.

Re: Tail Wheel Organization
I'm sure one reason for the Cub Club's strong attraction is their excellent bi-monthly publication. I have almost 20 years of them saved, and they're a terrific resource for owners of all types of Cubs. The other reason would be that they cover so many different kinds of Cubs, and so many are still flying (not to mention the ones being built every day).

Who accused us of being organized?MoonlightVFR wrote:...Does this make us the largest tail wheel organization in the World ?...
Bigger is not always better. Our sister association (C120/140) is a really friendly and knowlegeable group. There once was discussed the possibility of a merger even. But as it was pursued that idea had diminished benefits and increased complications, and the idea finally devolved that other than the name of mfr'r and some similarities of construction.... not much else was shared other than the love of flying Cessna tailwheel airplanes...and that commonality did not indicate any method of overcoming the complexities of merging two different type-clubs and their administrations. There certainly was no reduction in cost-to-Members benefit.
It's a simple matter to be friends with each other. (It's a shame a certain larger Cessna-brother, despite their moniker, is not so cordial to outsiders...but as Cleo once said...there's a reason WE are an association...and not a "society" or "club".)

Re: Tail Wheel Organization
George,
I agree that our 170 Association is a much more friendly organization than the larger Cessna tailwheel club that I used to belong to, not mentioning any club name but remember I had a "Overgrown 170" for a number of years.
