Insulation

Post by 170C »

Different IA's have given me different opinions on this subject so I thought I'd see what you folks think. My plane has a couple of types of fiberglass insulation in it. Some of it is probably factory installed (?) . It is yellow/gold colored and in the wing root area I have the common pink (panther  )fiberglass like what you would find at Home Depot. One person said it attracks moisture which could result in corrosion and that as it deteriorates it gets in the air which is detrimental to our lungs. Another one told me I should fill the wing root voids with fiberglass to help hold out cold air and possibly some noise. What is the current recommendation regarding fiberglass in these areas and what might be a better product to install?

I took all my insulation out as it was a mess after 50+ years. It is great for hiding stuff like mouse droppings and it does hold moisture in difficult to repair areas!
A good intercom/headset setup is better than any insulation money can buy.
Cheers
