Re: 2019 Cessna 170 Convention
Sorry folks we can’t be there this year but we will sing waltzing Matilda at New York convention. We really enjoy the conventions but I have medical issues that I have to attend to. Please party on hard but us Australians will keep you in our thoughts.

Planning on a dawn-flight on the 6th. Should take about 5 hours with a fuel stop somewhere.

Got to Macomb, IL (right at half way from Brighton to Newton) and overnighting with a lifelong friend I only get to see every few years. May have to stay low for a ways tomorrow morning, but it looks doable.

We are leaving in the morning with a RON at Kennett, Mo, then on to Newton Thursday morning (I hope ). Actually flying the 170...yikes, no autopilot.

We landed at 2:00pm today. Good ride except last 20 miles. Weather better than forecast. All checked in and ready to relax a bit.

Unfortunately Mary Anne and I will be missing this one. Mid- week to mid week plus the early date just didn’t fit in with our schedules. Will will miss seeing everyone, wishing all well and safe flying.

Have a great time together - Wish I was there in person.
I will be at 60th High School Reunion Messick. Memphis TN. Rock N Roll was being birthed. A class member wrote Green Onions, Co wrote "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay". His greatest thrill was being the band in the "Blues Brothers Band."
I will show pictures of Cessna 170's and talk of the newton convention.
Breath deeply enjoy life. Choose life.

Had a great airport day in Newton yesterday. The local paper was there and published a bunch of pics here: https://www.thekansan.com/photogallery/ ... 09998/PH/1
Re: 2019 Cessna 170 Convention
Well I had a great convention week. Slipped in between storms Wednesday in cool smooth conditions. I had a pretty good knot in my throat on final to KEWK (sorry BluElder) as this was the first time my airplane had flown to a convention since 92. Rumors, started by my wife that I teared up at that time are unfounded. Did the fly out to Hutchinson Friday and enjoyed the salt mine trip and flying with Frank (Ol Pokey). Airport day was Saturday and went smoothly, and the forums were informative, and nobody brought up what kind of oil to use I took a young lady from Newton EDC as bombardier who seemed to have a really good time. Sunday was meeting day and the worst weather day we had. Monday was a trip to Wichita to visit Doc and a separate trip later in the day to Stearman Field to gawk and eat in the super cool bar and grill. Tuesday was the flyout to the Beaumont Hotel and later to Cessna field where we took a group photo in the spot where it happened 50 years earlier. The Beaumont is like a photography studio for aviators. I decided not to fly that day because of the forecast winds and congested airspace around Wichita but had a great time anyway. The auction followed where I spent copious amounts of money and thankfully my wife decided to go back to the hotel and rest. ( 5 a.m. is way to early to get up) As soon as the auction ended it was time to get ready for the banquet. The banquet is always a good time and celebration of another successful Family Reunion. I was busy taking pictures and didn’t write down the winners but I do remember who won “People’s Choice” and yes, my eyes did leak when Miles announced the winner as 4583C formerly known as “The Eternal Project”. This was 27 years since I flew to my second convention and I have only missed two in all those years, so being picked for that honor was a great highlight. To finish the circle 4583C was also called out as winner of the bomb drop, something I helped Frank win @ our first convention in 91. For the perfect ending to this wonderful week we made the 350 mile trip home non stop in 2:40.

Re: 2019 Cessna 170 Convention
This years convention was really nice. The folks at both the City of Newton and at the Newton City/County Airport were very accomodating to our convention attendees. The Holiday Inn Express folks were also very attentive to our needs. It was a very enjoyable time. Lots of activities and especially a lot of flying activities.
Special thanks to Byrd Raby for having me fly out and back with him (Ole Pokey stayed home this time), Paul Wood for letting me ride to Hutchinson and to Ken Peck for giving me a seat on our fly out to Beaumont, Augusta and Cessna airports. What's not special about getting to fly in two convention award winning airplanes in the same week! Thanks guys
