With the recent talk of GA opening back up in Cuba, I thought I'd brag a little. I've never been there, but '98C has...

I contemplated it, but decided against it. Great shot! Not sure how I feel about it, though.

That's cool Miles! I wonder what the purpose of the trip was. Did the plane have additional fuel tanks? 6-1/2 and 7.0 hr flights are a bit long for standard tanks. Maybe they didn't record intermediate stops?

One would think there would be more elevator displacement to get to that attitude!

The airplane shows no evidence of ever having more than stock fuel (though there have been times I wish it did), but it's only 100 nm from Key West to Havana, so the flight is by no means a stretch for the 170. This is the aircraft log book, not a pilot log book, so I've always thought that Mr. Horst just logged the full day's flying without logging every landing.

A 1955 trip to Havana for some dancing and gambling... would be a very fun trip!

My uncle and aunt used to belong to a travel club in the 1950s that used a Constellation to fly from San Antonio to Havanna for weekend trips. They had some great stories from those trips.

Kari,
Great pictures, looks like some interesting adventures.

Unusual pitot tube. I have read of it being available, this is my first time seeing one.

Thanks for all of you commenting the photos!

Some answers: the prop is McCauley 7653. The pitot tube is installed in mid 70s, if I remember right.

If you want see more same kind of photos, there is also a longer version (ca. 8 min) of the "photo album" with fellow planes available.

And also an older version of "the best of OH-CSO pictures" from years 2005-2009 is available here:

Have a nice weekend and sunny flying days!
