What is the latest thinking on what brand of cylinders to buy for the 0300A? Is there any brand to avoid?

With 70 hours since new, I'm happy with my ECI Titans so far. Time will tell...

On the last C145 that I overhauled, I was very favorably impressed with the Superior cylinders I installed.

This was at the time that they first came on the market and they were about half the price of factory cylinders. Admittedly, this was a primary consideration of my choice, but they were very satisfactory.
Incidentally, Continental, very shortly afterward, surprisingly discovered that they could drastically reduce their price and still remain competitave.

A recent local overhaul also used superior and so far good results but very few hours. However one local overhaul last year had problems with superior. The factory response was very good and fast and so far the latest cyl looking good but few hours.

Appreciate the response. Thanks. Steve.

ECI Titans have exhaust valve rotators and bayonet sockets for cylinder head temp probe or Tanis heater.

ECI also has nickel carbide cylinder walls that are more corrosion resistant than their steel cylinders if your plane is not flown regularly or is in high humidity or coastal climates. They have both types, your choice.

In 9 hours since new my ECIs have not used enough oil to add a quart yet.

I wouldn't buy anything from Continental unless an absolutely necessary last resort.

I mostly just lurk here on the 170 site. I have a 140 and am a member there. I find a lot of interesting reading here, we have some things in common. Cylinders is one of them. I have a set of ECI's on my C-85 with over 1000 hours. I get 20 hours or so before adding oil. I usually change before the second quart is needed. My annual last month showed 79/80 on all four cylinders. I use av gas and auto fuel. After comparing them side by side with the Continental cylinders that came off the engine, I don't even think about the rocker boss breaking or having a stuck valve. I think ECI looked at the Continentals and corrected all the faults, then build the best possible cylinder for these engines. Then again this is all just my opinion.

Thanks to Carl and Richard for the response on cylinders. Just landed in Hong Kong and found your input on my handheld. I was already leaning toward the ECI. Your inputs valuable.

I also have a 140A but has a 0200 made by Rolls Royace with original cyl and 1100 hsn.

Rebuilding a 170B and hope to have it in the air this year.

Thanks again.

Air Power Inc. has the Superiors for $649, its hard to even get a cylinder overhauled for that price.

Thanks, Dave for the input. ECI seems to be the general preference.

I have a place NE of you in Overgaard at AZ82.

Hope to see you one day at payson.

Come on down. I have the South East "T" of the old hangar building near where the fuel trucks park. I've been there almost every day for the last three plus months but 92C is going to fly again in a few days. :D Then I won't be there as much. In mid April we'll leave for the Northwest for the Summer. You can call me, I'm in the book.

Thanks, Dave. I am not at Mogollon much. Hope to spend more time there this summer. Primary home in Nogales. But will make a point of looking you up someday later this year.

I am currently in china but will be home next week.
