Off-topic: what some 170ers do in their spare time

TIC170A members Dennis Hoffman and John Renwick launched for Oshkosh early in the morning of July 22 from New Richmond, Wisconsin (RNH). Dennis is out in the lake, and I'm just taxiing away from the dock. The beached Cub is another J3 that didn't go to OSH, and I don't know why it has flaps, so please don't ask me about the approval basis for that! :)

Spare Time 170 Folks

Post by 170C »

John, that is a postcard pretty photo! Sure looks neat, especially now as it is 102+ degrees with no measurable rain (here at my house) in many moons. The only way I can stand it is to know what that scene probably looks like in Feburary. Its probably pretty even then, but too cold for this one.

First George with his preheating article, now you, Frank! What is it with Texans wanting to remind us that winter's coming, while we're all up here working hard to maintain our state of denial?

102 degrees? But I heard "it's a dry heat," and that's not so bad! 8)

Thanks for the compliment! That was the very best of the bunch my friend Steve took on that trip. Here's a photo of Steve, as we stopped for lunch at a resort in northwestern Wisconsin (Voyager Village, for those who know the area). One of the things a floatplane is really good at is turning a $100 hamburger into a $200 hamburger! 8O

Another good photo John. I have always though doing some float flying would be fun. Sure looks like it would. One of these days I have got to give it a try. Regarding the heat---well it is dry here alright (we are in a drought), but even so it is humid enough to make it pretty miserable. Not like West Texas, but at 105 or so its hot regardless of the humidity. Now, if we could find a way to mix our summer temps with your winter temps we'd have just what we need
