Not that I'm suggesting that anyone try that but I understand that you need to lock your brakes so your wheels won't rotate and will skip. Otherwise they roll and get pulled into the water.

Just in case you find yourself over a clear pond with to much time on your hands.

I sure wouldn't try it in anything that 1- has a springy leafspring gear, 2- has wheelpants, 3- has a nosewheel.

I don't think I'd try it in anything that doesn't have a keel.

Ha! Yep. I certainly didn't mean my comments to appear to approve of such stuff.

170's can water ski, as shown here:

Don't ask me details about the photo as I found it on the internet and don't know the history.

If I remember correctly, there's another picture that goes with this one, that shows the airplane on its back in the water...:(

I have a video of a supper cub skiing up to a gravel bar that is pretty incredible but I don’t know how I can post it.

You mean this picture:

But according to the accident report it happened when the engine sputtered on short final to a gravel bar.

Those pictures are not sequential (the 170 water-skiing and then the
same airplane flipped over on it's back). My neighbor is/was friends
with the subject aircraft owner and has "briefed me" on those shots.

Sequential as in "not the same day" or are you saying the plane was rebuilt and water skied after the accident? The reason I ask is because I read where the salvage helicopter dropped that plane during recovery and I could only imagine it was a total loss after that.

According to legend, it was a pilot approaching a gravel bar and touching down just a wee-bit early who discovered the ability to water ski. (It was also a pilot landing too early while approaching a gravel bar who once flipped a certain airplane.)
While water-skiing is a fascinating and daring display, I personally consider myself too timid and inexperienced to try it...and I don't ever expect to have what it takes to try it, either.

(And you guys all know how timid I am.)
