Ski ideas for 170B
Hi all. As a low time pilot and a brand new 170B owner, I have a lot of questions. First off, I'm wondering about skis. 2810c has the C-145, and a buddy has a pair of Airglass 2500's for sale. Would these be recommended? Also, would it be a mistake to start my tailwheel efforts on skis? Thanks for any help. Great site. Bryan
I run Landes/Airglas 2500's on my 170 and I like them they plane up in deep powder really well, they might not turn as tight in powder as the shorter wider skis like aero 3000's.
As far as tailwheel training on skis, if your flying with a CFI who comfortable in a 170 on skis, go for it, I'm sure there are some nice long flat lakes and rivers to practice on out side of Nome.
A few hints for 170 on skis:
ON THE GROUND:
THERE ARE NO BRAKES!!
ANTICIPATE YOUR TURNS, START THEM EARLY!!
IT WILL TURN LEFT, BUT NOT VERY WELL TO THE RIGHT!!
BE READY TO SHUT DOWN JUMP OUT AND USE THE OLD FASHION HEEL BRAKES!!
LANDING:
KEEP IT STRAIGHT!!
REMEMBER YOU CAN GO AROUND!! YOU HAVE NO BRAKES!!
FLY IT UNTIL YOU TIE IT!!
And have fun!!!
