Logbook Entry By A&P?

Post by CBogle »

I just changed the main spring in the tailwheel on my Cessna 170. Very straight forward, not complicated.

Question - Do I need an A&P to check the work and make the logbook entry or is this procedure maintenance that is O.K. for an owner entry in the log? I obviously want to stay legal for insurance purposes, etc.

Thanks,

CB

FAR 43, Appendix A, lists the procedures an owner may perform under Preventive maintenance. Replacement of landing gear springs are not listed, so you'll need a sign off.

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)

If you've got an annual coming up, maybe you can have your IA sign it off as part of that.
