transponder antenna

Is there a best location to locate the transdonder antenna. Is it legal to mount it on one of the circular covers on the belly of the plane. There are a couple of locations that seem well clear of control cables etc. What do you think Thanks G

The only problems I can think of with mounting it on an inspection cover is: a) the ground-plane may not have as good electrical conductivity as the aircraft skin, and therefore it may not have as good reception/transmision SWR's, and b) the coaxial cable and connector will be subject to additional mechanical stress during each inspection.
Most txpdr antennas are mounted on the belly, below the cabin, slightly aft of the gear legs, and fwd of the cabin entry steps. This is also a fairly protected area from washrack equipment, and running dogs. Wherever you mount it, it should be at least 30" from any other antenna for best results.
