While cruising through Hartzell list of propellers for 170,s. I came across a approval to fit a Hartzell prop to a O-435-C engine in a Cessna 170A It has 190 hp at 2550 rpm. The STC is for this engine to be fitted to a 170A and called the Fulton Conversion . The STC -SA1-240. So the million question is does anybody know of this conversion ?

What little info I do have ,I have been told it was a very robust and bullet proof. Lycoming doesn’t support it any more ,shame as the info I have recieved it is better than the 4 banger O-360 engine. So,the next question is ,how many were fitted to the 170 fleet? And by whom?

It very well could have been a one time STC. For that 170A only. Could be why we've never heard of it.

I have a friend with one in a Stinson. Pretty much an orphan engine, he has bought a couple of low time spares very cheap.

When I was looking for a 170 back in the early eighties the first one I found in Texas had an O435. I got excited until I started looking at parts prices for that engine . Seems like the cranks I found were two grand or better. I lost interest pretty quick after that
