My comment was intended in humor. I was thinking of the "Dumb and Tough" award Ron and Richard dreamed up.

I would also hope the 150 has the paperwork to support the STOL kit, in which case it's annual inspector should be prompted to look for the placard/revision to the AFM.

Out of curiosity I was looking at the STC for my Sportsman STOL kit. My copy of the STC doesn't say anything about spins being prohibited or about a flight manual supplement. However the Sportsman STOL STC shown on the FAA's website says, 'The appropriate FAA Approved Marvin W. Davis Flight Manual Supplement dated October 29, 1971, is required for this STC". Anyone happen to have a copy of this flight manual supplement, and if so, does it forbid spins?

The attachment is from the Marvin Davis Flight Test Report for the C-180 with a Sportsman STOL. It is not from the Flight Manual Supplement and I don't know if it applies to the 170 in any way but for the 180, no cause for concern was noted.

It will be interesting to see what Stene says.

There is an AD note for Cessna 150's and 152's that have the Bush STOL conversion. The document 96-12-23 from Cessna Aircraft Co. is Amendment 30-9666: Docket No. 95-CE-14-AD. Although it does not apply to Cessna 170's, compliance was required within the next 100 hours time in service after effective date. The fix is very simple and requires checking the height of the Stall Fence to insure it is at least 1.16 +/- 0.12 high at a fixed point. If the Stall Fence at this point is greater than 1.28 high remove fence and install the correct one.

Check out this document if you are concerned 8O and see Figure 1, Mid-America Dwg. No. 001 (STC SA1371SW).

Looking further into this I find that Stene has two STC's for leading edge cuffs on the C-170B. In addition to the one linked above is the one I have:STC SA2256WE. This one also applies to a lot of other single-engine Cessnas. It's still a mystery why one STC requires a flight manual supplement while the other doesn't.

Sorry about getting off on this rabbit trail. To get back on topic, reading this discussion should make one think twice about spinning the 170, with or without a STOL kit.

The BUSH people claim the fences they've sold since they lost their PMA were mfr'd PRIOR to that loss of authority. But there was no record-keeping documentation to support that claim, and law does not provide FAA the authority to dispute their claim. (No surprise here...after all, it is a BUSH conversion. Those folks are well-known for rascally behavior.)
