1952 Cessna 170B Insignia Red with original interior ?

Post by fpinan »

Gentleman ,

As some of you probably remember , i'm in the process of restoring a 1952 Model .( N2475D )

The plane was Serge Blue originally.
To make it short .

I found on line a beautiful picture of a polished C170 Serge Blue , N2548D.

I found back the owner via the FAA registration .I contacted him. Outside the fact the plane is in a pristine conditions outside , he still have the original interior inside ...
He's been very kind to sent me some pictures of the interior and to be honest .. i'm not super excited about the colors chosen..
They should have fire the designer on this one !! 8O ( Just a joke...and personal opinion ).
With his permission i will post them in the library later .

As i want to stay on the original conditions , Which option i have ?? If it's not Serge Blue , let's take a look on the Insignia Red version ..

I have the original 52 commercial brochure of the plane and i looked at it .
It looks in better harmony ... ( Again , just my personal opinion )

I saw the pictures posted by Bruce ( thank you ! ) on the library area for the Red 52, N2320D.

Do you know if someone in the association as done a complete restoration of a Red Version to factory conditions or still have an original interior ??
I'de love to see some pictures of the interior if possible .

Than , i will have to take a hard decision .. Stay with the Serge Blue restoration or Make a complete Red Insignia version ...

Thank you in advance all of you for your support ..
Fred

Hi Fred!

Check with Charlie Beyer, owner of N2320D. His airplane had an original interior that was recently replaced with a very close replication.

Best regards,

Ryan

Fred,
I still have the original interior in a box in the back of the hanger. I kept it for just such a purpose! Send me a PM or email at 2811charlieatgmaildotcom.

Hi Fred. We met at the Miller fly-in a couple of years ago. How's your project coming along?

If you need interior upholstery work, there's a guy in Lincolnton that does great work. Name is Bobby Carswell and his number is 704-736-9500 or cell 704-740-5178. He's doing my interior next week, hopefully, and you're welcome to check it out when he's done. 423-400-8901 (TN cell #, but I live in Denver, NC)

Joe, I'm looking to upgrade my crushed green velvet interior (not original........lol) that was installed in 1973 and was wondering if you still recommend Bobby Carswell work?

Oh yeah! Still loving it after a year. Lots of complements, too! He uses documented flame retardant materials, too.
