AIRPORT CLOSURE

It's Done.

Today it happened .

At 12:30 today the U S Congress voted to allow closure of the St Clair Regional Airport.

Resident pilots and MO general aviation community have resisted closure for nearly fifteen years.
A tough and resilient bunch. Don't tread on me.

I have leased a hanger since 1992.

General aviation appears to be in a weakened state. All the more reason to support the Cessna170 organization. Maintain an organized voice. Keep the unique "freedom of flight" alive. Build Hope!

Regards

George, he's been telling us. Congress did indeed just pass a bill that will forgive obligations for using Federal grant monies and other things clearing the way for the city to close the airport. Reportedly they want to build a commercial district there to 'jump start' the local tax base.

Another good use of Federal tax dollars.

Yes, it is K39.

Many years ago Sam Walton (Cessna 210 ) examined the area and decided to build a Wal-Mart Store over at Union MO and Washington MO retail area. No Mall store for St Clair.
Yes they will close airport, City will sell the property at a loss to developers standing near. Straw Party system. Successful Retail is not going to happen.

President Obama will sign this bill to make it official His signature will effect Six (6) pilots . Interestingly one pilot is family which originally gave most of the land to the City of St Clair. Free land for airport. One pilot I think is ATP for Southwest Airlines . Another pilot is a business owner, largest employer in Franklin county. When you refill your car at gas pump look for the name HUSKY on the nozzle. That is him. He keeps his airplane at St Clair.

This action leapfrog's right over the FAA. Quite a number of cities have been watching the events surrounding the disposition of St Clair Regional Airport. Can we expect a rush of airport closure actions?

I think there should be a law that any time a municipal or county airport is closed by a local government, a municipal or county golf course would be closed at the same time. That would probably keep many airports open.

The bleep County Supervisor who tried to close our airport but after a five year campaign could not. County was given the airport in '45 or '46 by the feds with a forever obligation to run as an airport, FAA grant obligations, significant reliever airport, etc.

In the end, he relented that the only way to close the airport would be an act of congress.

-- guess what -- he's just been elected to Congress. (Mark DeSauliner)

FAA Laws & Regulations are written to protect the AVIATION COMMUNITY.

Grant Obligations are intense and severe. Recipients do not understand what they are obligating to when they accept monies. FAA is about 5 blocks ahead of recipients.

So Mark DeSauliner has been elected to Congress. Is he an attorney? Can he rekindle his five (5) year fight to close your airport?

You mentioned "Act of Congress" . The term seems familiar is there a wiki for that?

GA needs supporters and new pilot starts. Can we help?.
