Pre Buy Inspection Help

Can anyone recommend a Mechanic, or 170 expert for a pre-buy inspection in the vicinity of Indiantown, FL, X58? I'm flying down Friday to fly and inspect this 170A, but I still need someone for the pre-buy.

As a new pilot with less than 100 hours, the insurance company required me to complete 10 hours Under Instruction in a tail wheel with a CFI. Over the last 4 Saturdays I logged a total of 10.8 hours under instruction and 70 T.O. and landings in a C140. What a workout!
Thanks,

JP-
I can't help you with the pre-buy but welcome to the club! You picked the right plane to take your training in, you should have no trouble transitioning to the 170.

Thanks Richard.
It's a privilege to be a member of such a supportive organization. Now if I can just find the right 170!

I found someone for this 170A pre-buy inspection. This guy knows the 170 and has built several RVs. He comes highly recommended.
Thanks all!

Building an RV, building a fleet of them , won't help him with evaluating a 170. If you find a 170 owner ,that would help with the obvious.
Seriously get someone who really knows these aircraft, otherwise you're just making a bet.

Jim what is it you missed in JP's message. We both know a guy who fits this description and he might just be the guy JP is talking about. And if it is I think he will do just fine.

Bruce, if it was plural, maybe..... Highly recommended by 170 owners or RV owners? I think we cannot over-emphasize to a new owner the level of inspection required when buying a 170 type aircraft.
I remember the last 170A from Florida that you and I looked at...maybe I just have bad memories from that one. Anyway I'd rather err on the side of caution especially with someone somewhat new to all of this than say nothing.

See Jim, you read that as he knows one 170 and an expert on building RVs. I read it that he was familiar with the entire 170 series and in addition he has skills, knowledge and experience in building several RVs. Through caution to the wind Jim. :D

Hi Jim,
Now I'm getting worried! I hope the 170A I'm looking at Friday is not the same one you have bad memories of. This one is N1337D and is advertised on Barnstormers as "Cessna 170A" located in Stuart, Fl. Its hangered at X58, Indiantown, FL.
Is this this one?
Thanks for your input!

I read it as he knows the 170 (the specific 170 in question) but it could be read in other ways as you mention Bruce. And I always throw caution to the wind with money I don't have :D Its All good ... and i"m sure there are many soild 170A's in Florida. But there may also be projects such as this one from a member in Wa. http://hanley.org/olan/cessna170forsale.html. that may pose problems for a new owner/pilot. Not insurmountable but maybe at a problem level beyond someone new to this field.
