Mojave Desert from 8500 ft

As is fairly common on weekends, Joshua Approach cleared us through R-2515 at or above 7000 feet on our way back from Las Vegas last Saturday. In the foreground of the photo below is the largest borax mine in the world, and the largest open pit mine of any kind in California. Closer to the horizon toward the right is Rogers Dry Lake, home to Edwards AFB.

What kind of door-latch system is that?

Miles said he'd answer that as soon as you got pictures of your Hatch Latches.

And another thing!!! Why the (it looks like) inspection panel around the upper strut mount? Never mind, after expanding the photo I see the inspection panels are the typical round ones. As Rick Perry says

Geez! talk about thread hi-jack (sorry Miles).

George, I seem to remember it being called Sky Catch. I found it in Trade-a-Plane many years ago. It's just a small brass half-hourglass shaped knob that is attached by a single rivet to the existing arm, and engages the spring clip inside the door frame. It holds in winds up to about 15 knots.

Charlie, I know you're joking, but it took 35-40 miles of climbing out of North Las Vegas (KVGT, 2200' elevation and close to 90F) to get to 8500.
