Gross weight (Floats)
Anyone have any ideas why the gross weight on floats is 100 lbs less?
Anyone working on an increase?

Re: Gross weight (Floats)
Per the A model POH the max gross weight on floats is 1975, without floats is 1900.

Gross wt of the landplane is 2200.
Floats impact the balked-landing-climb requirements and add stress to the doorposts, firewall, and attachpoints. Reducing the Gross Wt. reduces those problems (among other things.)

Ooops, I was looking at the "Utility" portion of the manual. Sorry for the misinformation...

That's what I'm getting (Balked landing) C-145/0-300. With 0-360 and 175 wings (2550 gwt) STOL kit/VG's, 80 Hartzell, mine definitely performs. Rumor has it that Del-Air was looking into a GWT increase for C-170's but I've been unable to confirm it through his old outfit or Wipare.
In researching structure issues I have not found the 170B to have many negatives that would hinder an increase. Station 90 would probably need a little work. Heck 2300 lbs would be great vs 2100 (Float) now.
Anyone interested in teaming to get a DER to look into it??
Re: Gross weight (Floats)
Stoots aviation sez a combination of larger engine and larger tail feathers such as the 170 "C". Anbody have pictures of such??
Re: Gross weight (Floats)
In combination with Wipline 2100's you get gwt of 2200lbs. ART/WingX STC for GWT of 2400lbs is a bust. He's blow'in smoke about getting it approved in the US. Been at it for years with no results.
Re: Gross weight (Floats)
Is the WingX approved for 2400 lbs in Canada?

According to WingX, Yes

Re: Gross weight (Floats)
I believe the 2106 lbs gross weight on floats is an Edo 2000 limitation due the the buoyancy (lack thereof) of the floats. Is it not 2200 lbs with larger floats?

Re: Gross weight (Floats)
Wipline 2100A has STC for C-170 A/B 2200lb gross. (STC00804CH) the 2106 lb number shows up in the TCD sheet but doesn't mention the EDO float although it does in other areas so who knows??
