Lake Front Fly In Lakes
Can anybody recommend any lakes in PA or NY area that you can fly in to? I am tinkering with the idea of having a lake house where I can fly to my front door. What are the rules on landing on lakes?
Re: Lake Front Fly In Lakes
For starters,it is recommended that you install floats prior to attempting a landing.

Nah I figure if I leave the gear up it should float. Going to place a few pool noodles on the wings JIC...

According to SPA:
PA:

NY:

USA:

Interestingly enough, I did not see the Susquehanna River included in the directory. I know there's a seaplane base near Sunbury, off of Packer Island (which has a large, turf strip, 71N, if memory serves). I suspect the list may not be conclusive (or I just can't read and follow directions). I do know that in PA, if the waterway is privately owned, all that is needed to perform seaplane ops is permission of the owner. So, instead of buying a lake house, just buy a lake... or two.
Looks like NY is more amenable to seaplanes.

Maybe he's only going to fly to the cabin in the winter.blueldr wrote:For starters,it is recommended that you install floats prior to attempting a landing.
There is a derelict float plane base on the Mohawk River between Schenectady and Albany I bet someone could buy. It has an old hangar with a junk Taylorcraft in it and a ramp into the river. It was once a nice setup.

Those guides are great, gotta love PA with all red but Raystown. I know of the seaplane base you speak of, and I live only like 5 minute flight away from there. I want to see if their is still a guy there that gives seaplane lessons.
