Spring Fly-ins - Storms!

Planning a Fly-in, in the Spring, just seems impossible. I've been watching the weather and it looks like the odds are not favorable. I was just sitting here thinking I'd like a piece of some Bengston Cherry Pie

The fires are nowhere near me...but they are not far from Paul Wood and a few other Members.

NO - I live 80 miles south of Gastonâ€™s, in Russellville. Our playground is the Petite Jean River/Mtn, where we've hosted 5 or 6 Spring Fly-ins, with the last being 2008 (see links). We had some wonderful, perfect weather, fly-ins up until the last couple. Don't know if it's Global Warming or what! This will be the 3rd spring we've missed now and I'm just watching the weather and trying to see some kind of pattern, at least, when the tornadoes will stop.

Oh I havenâ€™t forgotten Becky's Elk/Bacon wrapped Appetizers.

Mississippi Mud Bugs
Clam Chowder, from way up there.

sorry Dave, I knew that.....must have had Gastons on my mind. We were on the computer thinking of a few place to visit this summer within a tank full range and we have never been to Petit Jean ....will study some more now. We wanted to hit Beaumont Hotel going or coming too.

Yes, I'd be late as hell because I haven't even started towards the airplane yet. I know it's a fast green example but it's not that fast. Probably beat George there though.

I'd definitely make an effort to get there before you Bruce! ...unfortunately....for Dave it's WX..for me, it's a central air unit in the attic with a leaky evaporator and I'm not a happy camper about the cost.

Sorry for the downer...I'm just as bummed out over this as Dave is about the WX. Every time I seem to be getting ahead......

The catastrophic wildfires have all been West of us so far. The Possum Kingdom complex is probably 35 or so miles away. I think the count of lost homes from this fire is 160 plus, two churches and 140 or so outbuildings. Texas has lost over a million acres to wildfires in the last ten days. George, you're worried about air conditioning? I woke up this morning to an inch of new snow! This has been the worst winter/spring I've ever seen. Maybe it's because I'm getting older

Yes.... it's forecast to be 94-degrees here this afternoon. Jamie and I remodelled about 15 years ago (our house was originally a 1950's ranch/hunting lodge) and we removed steam-radiatiors and wall-mounted AC's, ...replacing the ones in the main-house with a central air/heat system. The furnace is propane-fired but the AC is R-22...and that stuff is now considered obsolete after only 15 yrs. I can either replace the entire system for $6K.... or replace only the evaporator and retain the R-22 refrigerant... for about $1300...hoping the compressor/condenser will last another ten years or so.
If things continue according to tradition, the compressor/condenser will self-destruct this summer or next and this year's evaporator expense will "evaporate". (I guess that's the origin of the term....._

The good news is that, here in central Texas "hill country"...the temps at night drop back down to the high-50's/low 60's and with our house on a hill...there's always a nice breeze. (If things should really get nasty with a failed central air unit...the bunkroom at the hangar-end of the house has a seperate AC unit.... a contingency-plan is always a good idea living in rural Texas.)

I've just returned from work. The TV is beeping "Severe Storm Warnings" through tonight - looks like the flow is on a course towards you - Bruce.
