Now among the few and the proud...
Hi, All,
I am just brimming with excitement and I had to share with you all!--my significant other (Chris Anderson) and I are now the proud care-takers of N3234A (s/n 25878)--you may remember this plane belonging to John & Alice Tumblin. We bought it from their son who had owned it for the last year and a half. With the help of my Pa, who so graciously used his frequent flyer miles to traverse the country out to L.A., we ferried it back to Colorado last week. What an incredible trip! The wx was just super with tailwinds that at one point brought us up to approx 138 kts. I was afraid the wings might come loose-haha. The engine was overhauled back in 2004 by Zephyr engines in FL (using ECI Titan cylinders) and only had 75 hrs on it. It hummed along so nicely! And barely drank a drop of oil. The trip from KWHP to KFTG was 7:40 flight time. We stopped in Farmington for a night and I must say we received really great service at Bisti Aviation (courtesy car overnight & a special rate @ the Best Western $65) Anyway, Chris and I have been reading up on all the forums and are learning a lot from you all! I will post pictures soon...

This is indeed a very special group (some more special than others ). My parents have been "dragging" me to conventions since I was 3 years old. I feel very honored to be a 2nd generation C170 owner. And now my sig other is beginning to understand the uniqueness of this organization. We went to Kelowna this summer and this was his first convention--now he can't wait for Galveston!

Congratulations Angela and Chris. You will find that indeed this forum is a very active and special place not unlike the rest of the TIC170A organization.
Unfortunately you won't find many of the regular convention goers here at the forum and many of the older generation of the TIC170A have no time for computers or this sort of sometimes hourly exchange of information.
On the other hand you may get to know several more 170 people who may never be able to attend a convention and this is their only interaction with members.
I'm so pleased that you found the forums. As a new forum reader don't let the amount of information here overwhelm you.
I know you have some built in tech support from your father but don't be afraid to jump in here with any questions you or Chris may have.

Thanks to you all for the warm welcomes. Here's a progress report: Angela and I, oddly enough, don't have tail wheel sign-offs (which can make a person wonder about the logic of buying this particular airplane.) But this problem is quickly being remedied. We have each flown about 3 hours with our instructor and logged 16 landings each (we can only fly on the weekends). Previously, all my experience had been in tricycle gear birds, and I 'thought' that was the way to go. Not anymore. I'm a convert. Anyway, maybe some of you can remember what it's like to own one of these things and not be able to legally fly it on a whim. It hurts! (We do touch it a lot. ) So, with a little help from the weather, Angela and I will be signed off very soon and on our way! Pictures are still to follow...
Cheers

You mean Eddie & Mary didn't fly the RV out to Denver? I figured he & Mary would be looking for an excuse to put some more time on it. Hope his 170 project is coming along OK. Had fun flying with your folks flying to the convention last summer. Hang in there on the 170. You & Chris will have a great time with it. AND welcome to TIC170A
See you in Galveston.
