Hi Frank,
My Sport Aviation came today, and yes, that's me, guilty as charged. Also 170 Association member Dennis Hoffman. You might have met him and his wife, Nan, at this year's Petit Jean flyin.
We keep our Cubs hangared at New Richmond, WI (RNH), and we'd had no experience leaving them for extended periods on the water. So after having been at Oshkosh for a day, we wanted to go to the planes and see how much water they had taken on. Very little, as it turned out!
It was a great trip!

Doesn't an airplane have to weigh something in order to take on water?
That IS a cool photo....just made me consider how dedicated airplane owners are to their birds.... seeing two owners just sitting out there on the water...just to be under their own wings.

The truth is, after landing at the seaplane base and being treated like visiting royalty in our mere J3 Cubs, we had to whoop it up a little. We were caught having more fun than the legal limit in Wisconsin, and got sent to our aircraft for a time-out. (This doesn't work very well at the main field, but on the other hand, the seaplane base is the only place this violation ever comes up! )
After we sat out there for a few hours, they finally sent a boat out for us, with a photographer on board. We were so glad to be let off those tiny airplanes that we looked like the photo Kyle discovered on the EAA web site:
