New Cowling

Post by 54170b »

Hey guys
I wanted to modernize my cowling, and my design basically looked just like this!:
Seems the guy beat me to it but.... Who is he? Would love to go over it with him.

I have a 1959 172 cowl that looks like that and its made of a slightly heavier gauge metal as well.

Sorry Pete but you're wayyyyy off! Look how yours drops below the boot cowl 4" and this one goes nowhere but up, and is missing the large plenum on the bottom.

I really like the look of the one you posted but I wasn't sure if you needed one to house an O-300 or something beefier like an IO-390.

The one Kyle pictured has an XP Mods IO-360, I believe.

I have personal photos of that plane when he came to Boise this past summer. He lives/works up in Coeur d'alene, ID. Very nice 170B, it is a fiberglass custom cowl that encloses a Continental IO-360. I forget his name but he was also very nice.

I guess I'll survive, Arash. Wasn't this guy out of curiosity, was it?

It looks like it's just a really well-filled and massaged cowling with a Del-Air nose bowl. Sorry I can't embed an image on here...I get an error saying that it can't determine dimensions. I've all but given up on images on this website.

You are a google master...

As for images, if you're using an apple device this app makes it a breeze for resizing images to meet forum requirements for total file size and pixels.

I need to get back to studying for my CFI instead of worrying about random 170 pictures I've seen.

I hate those ugly cheek-bumps on conversions. I guess on wide-deck Lycs it's necessary. Another reason to opt for a TCM IO360.
