Continental O300C oil pan
During an oil change noticed what appears to be oil seeping from the oil pan just in front of the carb. Wondering if someone has another oil pan or where would be a good place for repair?

See this thread for answers. You might have it welded with mixed result. You might have it repaired with a coating but not after it's been welded. Or you may not find anyone who will repair it. The lack of viable sumps will likely bring the Continental powered fleet to a stand still at some point.

Maybe we should look for someone to make a stamped steel pan. With new technology there might be even a better way.

Of course there is a better way. Or at least as good as these are now 50 something years old. But the market is not big enough for anyone to recover there investment in th cost of certification. Again regulation kills aviation.

not my area of expertise, but this seems to be an easy deal for someone with a CNC machining setup.

When I hand you a exact duplicate of a 0-300 sump. you have your A&P install it. who declares airworthiness? Skydynamics has replaced the aluminum Lycoming sump with one made of magnesium. I think the aerobatic community has deeper pockets than average C-170 pilot. Probably little chance of getting corrosion in an aerobatic sump as the oil/water is "stirred" well during flight.

I agree Tom, the owner operator determines airworthiness of the part. However the mechanic must agree to install it and the IA must agree it is a legally manufactured and installed part year after year. It is often the mechanic and or IA that is the problem as they are more afraid of enforcement action and more to lose if it occurs.T. C. Make them out of carbon fiber, probably stronger and no corrosion worries.
