Happy Birthday Dick Lemmon!
Rumor has it that our own Dick Lemmon, aka blueldr, is having a birthday today! Congratulations Dick! 92 years young! A real accomplishment in anybody's book!
Visiting Dick a couple of years ago at his home impressed me to no end with the knowledge he has retained of every airplane he has flown from Stinsons in Alaska to C124 Globemasters going who knows where. Not only did Dick remember specific details of the engines/props, airframes, and operating limits, he had first person stories to go with them as well. All entertaining to say the least. We even sampled the famous 35 year old bottle of George Dickel, and I don't mean a quick sniff of the cork either. And Dick is quite the chef as well. His S.O.S. (chipped beef on toast for the un-initiated) for breakfast was the best I ever had, probably due to the whole stick of butter he used to cook the 1/2 pound of hamburger.
Then he treated me to a tour of his favorite airport hangouts and introduced me to several of his airport pilot buddies. A trip full of pleasant memories and a great couple of days with a true gentleman.
Keep the posts and original comments coming Dick, we love them all. Even if they make us blush sometimes, they are always entertaining.

Thank you all for the rememberances. It is pleasing to have so many friends. I have few contemporaries left around here.
Johbeeb, please advise your mother that I sort of gave up dating. I used to do that, but I can't remember why.
Bruce F., I have the sidecar running on one of my Vespas now. Talk about a "Chick Magnet" !

Very happy birthday to you, Dick. You are a wealth of knowledge and I always enjoy reading what you share with us.
Re: Happy Birthday Dick Lemmon!
Thanks fellows. I did have a very happy birthday, especially since ny younger daughter, Nancy, was home from China. She went back today.
Today was a loser, though. I was on the way up to my hangar at Westover Field, a forty mile trip, on my Vespa with the sidecar. Three miles over the county line, in the middle of no place, the damned drive belt broke. Thank god for cell phones! I was able to contact one of my friends and he and another buddy came to my rescue with a PU truck and a car-hauler trailer. I'm gonna get rid of those damn Vespas with that belt drive. This is the second time it has failed me in almost the same place on the route. I love the Vespas except for the so called CVT transmission. The old Lambretta scooters I used to have over in Guam had a clutch and a four speed progressive transmission. Sure beats hell out of this belt drive CVT (Continously Variable Transmission) set up.
Phil and Roxie Pryor, the summer caretakers, were scheduled to go in to the Johnson Creek Airport (3U2) in Yellowpine, ID, today. Things should be all set by Memorial Day. I am hopeing to be able to spend my summer in Yellowpine again this year. If I manage to make it, I hope to see some of you up there again.

W,
My daughter, Nancy, is a pilot for FedEx and fiys the Asian routes on the Airbus. She has been domiciled over there since they opened their hub in the Philippines just over twenty years ago. They were all moved to Hong Kong about two or three years ago.
