First woman to solo around the world

I feel I should mention the fact that my two beloved daughters gave me a copy of "Three Eight Charlie" last year. I have no idea where they found and bought it, but I do know that they're VERY,VERY, expensive.
This lady, Geraldine Mock, was an extermely gutsy lady, I used to fly the Pacific in a four engined DC-6 and always figured that that leg between the US mainland to Hawaii was one LOOONNNGGG SOB and I was doing it in the daytime. She left Honolulu at sundown headed for oakland. About 2500 miles at about 140 at night, and no lights on the ground.
I've always been disappointed that she never seemed to me to get the recognition she deserved. Since she accomplished this flight in 1964, fifty years ago at the age of thirty eight, she would be quite elderly today.

Sounds like she was pretty smart, too! (Single-engined...I wouldn't want to see all that water either!)
