Blueldr, I was told by VAL technician that setting up the 760 to retain the last frequency would drain the battery unless the airplane was flown at least weekly. He didn't recommend it. Have you found this to be true ?

I recently had to send my 760 to the factory as the display got very dim- a burned out photoelectric cell. But it was promptly repaired and the radio checked and updated.

I don't find the toggle tuning too much of a bother- you get used to it-

My VAL 760 holding circuit is wired directly to the battery through a toggle switch and a 1/4 amp. fuse. When I go flying I turn the switch on and energize the holding circuit. when I'm through flying for the day I turn the switch off to de-energize the circuit. I don't feel it is necessary to hold the frequencies over to the next day or whatever. It has never depleted my battery.
