Do you think it is possible to locate an A&P who performed an annual 8 years ago?
I have a log book entry with name and some long number.
FBO closed, mechanic left the state
Would the FAA help?
Where can I make inquiry?
Locate prior A&P

Grady, try the FAA airman inquiry here: https://amsrvs.registry.faa.gov/airmeninquiry/ (A mechanic is an airman).
You first enter YOUR info on the page that pops up from the link. (The FAA wants to know who's searching.) Then after submitting that, you enter as much of the person's info that you have. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow you to add an airman certificate number. If it's a common name, you may get a lot of results back. It gives you back all airman - pilots and mechanics. So if you know the state the mechanic moved to, include that in you inquiry to reduce your results. The results you will get back will be names. When you click on them you'll get info about them, which usually (but not always) includes a current address.
I hope this helps.
