Foam 10 Ft Deep Street

Post by MoonlightVFR »

Around noon today foam was 10 feet deep in Santa Clara CA Street.

Boy rode bicycle through it. Video

Fire suppression system in Hanger discharge, filled hanger THEN oozed out onto city street.

Media seldom reports aviation incidents with clarity.

No mention of hanger contents. You know it must be a valuable jet or two in hanger to have such a fire suppression system installed.

I have a simple fire extinguisher in hanger

What fire protection do you have for your C 170?

Four large ABC-type extinguishers for the hangar. One small Halon extinguisher in the airplane. No sprinkler or automatic system.

A number of years ago , we had a A300 airbus sitting in the hangar with doors closed and a electrician was showing the new girl friend around the hangar and aircraft [ Trying to impress] . The hangar had 4 floor mounted foam cannons and a roof spray system . He showed her the operating console and said "you push these 4 buttons and then hit the lock button to unlock "and bingo. And that's what happened . He override the infrared sensors. Only the tail tip of the aircraft could be seen . We all had a laugh as it was all caught on camera including his "mistake " at the console . This electrician also had another "mistake "a couple of months earlier when he ignored all warning tags and signs and flooded [fuel] a centre tank of a boeing 727-200 with people working in there .But that's another story.
He is now a realestate sales man.
