TrickAir Skis

I would like to know how many would be interested in purchasing these skis so I can help to encourage getting an STC for our 170's. A friend of mine had regular skis and hit a dry spot and ended up overhauling his engine. These skis can be installed & removed in 15 - 20 min after first installation.

Their advert already claims the 170 STC is "coming soon".

I'd be interested, which series are they planning to get approved for the 170? (wondering price)

The only size appropriate for the 170 would be the 2500 Alaskan. At 60 pounds apiece, they are not light or heavy. The 4000s I have on my 180 are 80 pounds apiece. Larger skis are better in general, but larger are heavier so its a balance. You never want to go too small. The FAA allows a 10% increase in bottom size over the actual ski size as seen in their ad showing the extended bottoms. I find it interesting they publish the weight for the 2500 but not the 3000.

These look like a good design to me but wheel penetration skis are always a compromise, which is fully acceptable in most cases. Even in Alaska there are times where the need for wheel skis, either hydraulic (heavy) or wheel penetration skis are required. Just be advised that performance on snow will never be as good as straight skiis. If I was going to buy skis, I would seriously consider the Alaskan 2500 for the 170. The price is listed on their Products page.

Another interesting detail is they use 8.50-6 tires. If they get a STC, 8.50-6 tires will be approved.

George, being in the wind is like our medical was to be. We just need to push a little with some clout. A friend had regular skis and hit a dry spot and overhauled his engine. After the overhaul, he bought TrickAir skis for our area from hard surface to snow covered fields. I like the 8:50's also for the clearance.

Trik aire is working on the original approval that was already started with the original owner of the company. If you call him he will tell you that they are working with the 3000 series for 170's. He is supposed to let me know when he gets the approval. We just had the contact on this about 3 weeks ago.
