N2905D Long Lost Floatplane

Post by counsellj »

When I was recently at the WAAM Fly-In this fall, re Trip Report: http://www.cessna170.org/forums/viewtop ... =3&t=12366 , I obtained several old aviation magazines from the late 60's thru the early 80's. I find it very interesting to see what was new and amazing back then. You never know when you will come across a hidden gem when looking through them. A July 1967 issue of PRIVATE PILOT had a Resort Report: CAROLINA LAKES BY FLOATPLANE. I didn't even notice this until I picked up the issue to read one night. The headline still didn't really peak my interest until I open to the page and saw the featured airplane. I wanted to share the find with the association. The picture below is the aircraft referenced and flown throughout the article. According to online records, she still is flying today. The registration shows this aircraft to be a 1955, B-Model, Serial Number 26848. She was registered to a Mr. John Fick, Anchorage AK. The database shows it to have been deregisterd in 2014. The seaplane prop and teeth/eyes actually looks really good on this bird.

Does anyone know of this airplane today or Mr Fick?

N2905D crashed in Willow, AK on August 30, 1988, but that seems too long before the deregistration to be the cause.

Dave,

That is interesting you found that. I also did two different NTSB database queries and both came back as "No Record Found." Thanks for adding to the story.

I think de-registration now happens automatically if you don't re-register. It's only been a few years that we have had to re-register.

The FAA database shows a John Fick to be an ATP/CFI/A&P living in Anchorage.

I have found unless you enter info EXACTLY like the FAA database wants to see it, you will not get good results.
