Thanks, Karl. I have found several usb power adapters that work at 28 v but they tend to be poor quality...best so far is from Wal Mart, but this one looks to be more robustly built.

I'll throw another solution out there for comment. If anyone needs a digital clock, as well as a way to charge USB devices, here's an interesting product: MD93 Series Digital Clock & USB Charger. It's here at $580:

I found it as low as $555 from another source, but this will be one of the more expensive options, although maybe a bit more elegant than an adapter always hanging out of a cigar lighter. Anyone have any first-hand reports on this one?

Wow! $500 + for a digital clock and a simple ubs charger 8O It will be a cold day in Death Valley before I spend that kind of money on a rather simple digital clock and a charger that I can get at Wal Mart for $400+ less :!: However, there are those with lots of extra bucks to spend, so go far it

Pokey, if you want to save some money the same company offers just the power ports for a mere $338 8O These units are TSOed.

As I said - "maybe more elegant," but not more economical. How a simple $10 electronic device, once it passes through the TSO process, can turn into a $388 device with less features would be a lively topic for another thread wouldn't it.

My GPS has a clock in it that sets itself. I think I'll buy Karl's $9.99 charging plug and call it good.

Lets not overlook that the $500.00 plus option saves the hassles of paperwork as there is none! :o

I don't remember for sure what brand mine is. I probably got it at Wally World and it has two receptacles so I can keep my iPad fully charged and also my cell or whatever. One feature I like is that it is small/short so it doesn't extend much beyond the power outlet

The mounting kit is needed only if you choose to mount it in a 2.25" instrument hole. Actually, I have great confidence that most of our members could fabricate such an adapter in about 20 minutes from a scrap of 0.032" aluminum. (Perfect application for a nibbler.) I just wish we could get the price down, as this would be a handy device to mount in the back seat area for pax who want to charge their devices as well.

I just spotted this charger at Sportys. If 24 volt capability is important; at $16.50, at least the price isn't too out of line.

The down side is that it has only two ports.

If you want to run with the big boys, you can't be chinchy.

Actually, my Timex watch keeps time as good or better than a Rolex. Its just that they wont let me play in their league.

hHis is a nice little charger--pretty low profile so does not protrude far. Fits nicely in my car where socket is under a panel. Will work on 12v systems, but not 24. Although it has 3 outlets, only one will charge an i Pad. The others may have the amperage capacity but wiring seems to be different (it is labeled android on mine).
