406 ELT's

Post by dj2790 »

Greeting, I am planning to upgrade my ELT to the new version. Has anybody done this mod and what brand would you recommend? Also, is adding GPS capability to the ELT worth it. Any and all comments or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks

If you already have an ELT-capable GPS onboard... why not? (depending on which ELT you purchase, of course.)

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)

We have a member doing this right now that I've helped a bit with how to hook the GPS to the ELT so, at least for his particular installation, I've thought about it. He choose an ACK E-04. I have no idea why he choose that one. He is planning to use a Garmin 18x GPS probably because it is suggested in the ELT instructions as a stand alone unit that could be used.

There are a few other options for the GPS, for example all Garmin panel mounted units can be used and most handheld units could be as well but that could be messy with wiring.
