Electronic magneto replacement

Post by sreeves »

I have a 1951 C-170A s/n 20216 equipped with the C-145 engine. I am coming up on engine overhaul time and would like to ask the membership for any thoughts on replacing one of the mags (Slick 6364s) with one of the certified electronic replacements vs standard mag replacement?

Thanks

I recently had two Bendix mag overhauled ($2100) Oct 2019 they seem to be going strong again.
Before there was quite a bit of mag drop. I heard the new ones either work or not no warning.
But add a little more power. It’s up to you . OOW

There are presently two systems (AFAIK) that are being made available to certified aircraft owners. Only one of them actually claims to increase power, which may or may not be of actual use. They are not cheap. Here’s an article from Aviation Consumer that may shed some light on the subject:

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)
