Richard,
Thanks for resurrecting this old post. Bruce put me in touch with the fellow who's dad has the STC for the rotary style door latch. I emailed the son and he said he would talk with his father about it. That was in February--the last I heard about it. I've emailed him again. It would be nice if that STC was available again. Vintage Aerofab's Tim Ryan gave a great presentation Saturday at the convention. He is amazingly talented. I think he would be the ideal owner of this STC.

Mike,
As you're probably aware by now the STC paperwork includes several examples/sketches of different ways to attach the aft end of the pipes. I took these pictures at Newton last week. As a standard practice I would avoid using AN365 elastic stop nuts in the engine compartment. Use AN363 all metal stop nuts instead. I didn’t see that anyone had to relocate the gascolator — clearance didn’t appear to be an issue.

Gary, thanks for the reference pics. My set arrive Thursday and I will go over the sketches with my mechanic and show him the pics you took as well. I know I would prefer not drilling into the firewall (just preference). I will post a pic of the install setup when completed. Mike

My understanding was buyers receive a set of extensions, the STC, and instructions on installing. What hardware configuration is set out in the paperwork? If you can post a couple of pics of the extensions when they are installed with hardware. Thanks Mike
The pipes a lot of pictures of different installations and the STC paperwork is all that arrived.

Mike, you might want to check out this thread which shows the Benham alternative installation of the pipes that does not require drilling through the firewall: http://www.cessna170.org/forums/viewtop ... ne+exhaust.

Good Afternoon, Well I have found some time over the next weeks to install the Bartone Pipe Set. The Pipes look great, and I would like to use the 304 Stainless Steel tubing crosspiece from which to hang the pipes. I have a question for anyone who has used this method. Aircraft spruce offers 304 SS Tubing Seamless OD 3/8 " inch in two wall thicknesses. The options are .035 " (Seamless) and .028 " (Welded) which one has anyone used? and any issues? The diagram provided with the pipes and this hanging option didn't specify a tubing wall measurement,..I don't think I missed it. Thanks for the info. Mike

Does anyone have an audio file / video of an engine starting up/running with this exhaust installed?

Sybil emailed today to ask that I take any ad down for their pipes. They had 20 sets made up and have sold them all out. They will not be restocking due to health issues.

As they are not for sale at this time, in order to save the valuable info regarding their pipes, I'll be moving this thread from the TradeMart to the Hanger.

I hope Pat and Sybil will consider taking action to keep this STC “alive” for future use. I would like to have the exhaust myself but just did the L3 Lynx ADS-B and need to replenish the bank account.

I would hope Pat and Sybil would consider donating or selling the STC to the club when they decide to retire.

I finally had time to get the set of Bartone Pipes installed and very happy with the look and function. I used a set of stainless pipe clamps, and for the hanger I used a set of Cessna 182 Turbo pipe hangers I was able to find at a good price. I like the way the hanger has the right contour for the pipe and has a good grab on the belting. I had good conversation with Pat Bartone when I spoke with him, and wish him well and better health. I'll post a pic when I get the cowls back on. Mike

I do not know if anyone is aware that the exhaust STC has been purchased by Doug Mueller (canav8) and he went through approval for some engineering changes. I hope he'll get on here and chime in, mine arrived today, more on the unpacking later. I guess I am #1?

Unboxing, very simple setup. Will post installation pics when I get the engine in 2 weeks. The tubes are really well done! labeled left and right.

Wow, the end of another era. I bought my pipes from Pat back in the early 80's. They have served well for the past 35 years. I won't tell you what I paid for them back then. :D
