Any ideas where to find a replacement oil temp gauge for a 1951 170A? Also any idea of the part number?

Stephen, The part number you are looking for is 0411017-3. Take a look at this link for repair shops before buying a new one. I've also heard good things about Rudy Aircraft Instruments. If you have your's rebuilt have the redline moved up from 225 degrees to 240 degrees. Also be aware of the need for the right adapter. See the write-up in the Mx Library and Scott's Service Information Letter. Use the search function at the top of this website. Start with "oil temperature gauge" using the quotation marks around the three words.

Any luck selling your plane? Looks sharp in the pictures but the oil temp does look a bit low!

ONLY if you're using single-weight Aeroshell.

Does not have to be AeroShell. (just has to be SAE 50 wt oil....not multigrade. See the engine type cert.)

Doubtless there will be some nay-sayer who will point out that TCM's change in the type cert. does not automatically transfer to the engine's installation in a C-170, nor does it authorize the change of red-line on the Cessna Oil Temp gauge. (But I'd still operate at the higher limit and be happy about it.)

Isn't Aeroshell the only game in town for single grade oil?

Thanks for the clarification, George. I had no idea there were that many 50wt aviation oils out there...
