Re: Total Re-Wire
I believe there is an STC for CBs that is in the list of STCs that are TIC170A-owned. I'd like to stop in at Olny sometime. Do you think they'd let me take a new Air Tractor around the patch a couple of times?

Re: Another plus for a tail wheel aircraft
When I was instructing I went out to preflight a 152 after it had sat in steady rain for about 3 days. I noticed it seemed to be dripping water from the belly behind the baggage area. I pushed down on the tail and felt what seemed to be gallons of water sloshing back through the aft fuselage and pou...

Re: Vent Tubes
I'd tell you my secrets, but I might need to get that business going since I've become a victim of the White House's "War on Corporate Aviation". Powdercoating is actually really easy, and I've found that there are a lot of hobbyists who do it. Hot rodders and motorcycle folks mostl...

Re: Repairs coming
For what it's worth, I had my exhaust OH'd a couple of years ago by AWI and I was less than 100% satisfied. Mostly with the workmanship on the shrouds. They looked like they were done by high school shop students. And not the good students, either. More like the ones who hung out behind the field ho...

Re: Vent Tubes
Alrighty! All done with the cleanup/restoration. There was some pitting and and scratches in the metal the spring button things were well rusted, so I didn't feel like leaving them naked so I powder coated them at the house. Also replaced all the toilet gaskets. Here are some before and after pictur...

Re: Fuel vent relocation to wing
Why would you park on a ramp full of fuel? That seems dangerous.gahorn wrote: It would allow siphoning of considerable amounts of fuel onto the ramp for extended times when the airplane was parked on uneven ramps full of fuel.

Re: Thoughts wanted on wing root fairings
I used to go with a girl that had a severe sunken cheeks condition on her butt. Reminded me of a C-172 every time I squeezed 'em! I really prefer a nicely rounded tail like a C-170. (Actually, I wouldn't have given her a second look, or squeeze, except for her bank account and liquor store.) Wow, s...

Re: Mogas and a "no fly" winter
While the fuel may not "go bad", left to sit for a fuel months it'll most likely leave varnish in the lines, the fuel selector valve and the carb. Might not be a problem at all, or it might cause problems down the road. The quickest way to defuel is to remove the quick drains.

Re: Vent Tubes
One could, in theory, seal the wing root/windshield area from the inside using aluminum foil tape from the insulation or HVAC section at the hardware store. It would look a little less ghetto than duct tape (even I can't see it, I know it's there!) I found some wool at the fabric store. I took my wi...

Re: Vent Tubes
I rebuilt my airvents using felt purchased at the local hardware store. Once rebuilt the vents worked well and did not leak. No foam or other type of sealer was needed for the dome cap. There was a good example of how to rebuild the air vents on this forum, unfortunately I have not been able to rel...

Re: Vent Tubes
I have a couple of questions about the vent tube parts as well. What is the part# for the part that is supposed to keep the vent from coming out of the vent tube? I believe it is called the "retainer". It seems to be part snap ring, part gasket. Is it an AN part, or do I need to source one...
