As most already know Greg & Sharon Brockleman have bought my 48 170.
It's going to a good home and I hope it serves them well.

Re: Original Equipment List
I would not take you up on that bet because I know equipment changes aren't the only reasons empty weight varies. Which is why I stated my method was as close as a calculated 65 year old W&B could be. But nevertheless it is still legal under part 91. One must remember that what's legal isn't al...

Re: Original Equipment List
As for my own 170, it has never seen a set of scales, the weight and CG being calculated from example at the factory. The W&B records where a mess. I spent a few fun hours starting from the factory record looking at each and every maintenance event from '49 to present finding and recording chan...

Re: Original Equipment List
Read note 1 in the TCDS, it says the up to date equipment list is all that is required, accompanied with a accurate W&B I'd call my A&P's Primary maintenance inspector at FSDO and ask where you can get this Original equipment list, when they ask you why you would need that, tell them the epi...

But what will the crank look like when removed. The reason we use a filter is to save the internal parts. Your screen only saves the oil pump.Bruce Fenstermacher wrote: But no, I'm not really looking for either at this point to install on my engine that has reached TBO with the screen.

Re: Engine Compression Question
I flew them five years and then sold the plane which is still flying with those engines which are now way-past recommended TBO.... and doubtless still rusty inside. Nope, I doubt it, When you first started the engines the rings scrapped the rust off the cylinder walls, and dispersed it thru out the...

Re: Engine Compression Question
Long storage times do not ruin the engine. I agree when the engine has been properly pickled for storage but that's not really the issue here. This plane has only been run about 10 hours in 3 years and probably was not run long or hard enough to drive out the water vapor (combustion product) from t...

Re: Engine Compression Question
Long storage times do not ruin the engine. With this case I would remove the spark plugs, spray the cylinders with a light oil, crank and spray until the oil coming out the lower spark plug hole shows no rust. replace the plugs, change the oil and filter if it has one. and start normally. run for 5 ...

Re: Refinishing Spring Gear legs
Well you can see it with a 10X and its actually a requirement after peening to ensure the treated area (although it should be) is uniform (no missed spots). As for hydrogen embrittlement, well caustic substances can cause this issue in high strength steel, doesn't mean it will but it increases the ...

Re: Refinishing Spring Gear legs
If you really want the gear legs cleaned for new paint, you could send them in for shot peening, I'm certain there will be no paint on them when they return.

Re: Refinishing Spring Gear legs
It was done on all gear legs when they were new, What is your reference? I have refinished well over 20 sets of gear legs, and never seen the tell tail signs of shot peening on any of them. The better question is: What is YOUR reference for maintaining Cessna's gearlegs in accordance with their ins...

Re: Refinishing Spring Gear legs
It's a manufacturing process and repair process and probably hard to pick out where the process has been applied, just using your eyes. Again, in high strength steel if you really want to know if there's trouble, NDT the piece. In order to do any good, Shot peening must move the molecules of the me...
