Re: Cabin door hinge pins

I have seen welding rod or retainers from the tractor parts store commonly referred to as hair pins. The beauty of hairpins is the ability to safety wire them so they can't come out. Bill K

preheater recommendation .

Earlier this winter I purchased a rechargeable propane gun type heater from Northern tool for use around my heavy equipment business. Turns out it makes a great preheater for the 170. Just set it up under the belly of the plane and direct it in where the cooling air exits the cowling and it does a g...

If the stenciling was not original I would be real surprised as it appears exactly as pictured on both of my 170s Bill K

If you care to go that far you might try New Garden Aviation in SE PA at N57. They have been doing the annual inspection on my ragwing for the last 21 years. Bill K

Re: cam

Finally got back in the air today. So far very happy with the job Aero Engines of Winchester VA did on my engine. He recommmended regrinding my cam as he felt that it was better than a new one. While the 170 was down I got a chance to fly in a Cherokee 235 and a 172. Have to say I would much rather ...

Re: cam

The mechanic found the problem while changing out a cylinder with low compression. Have you seen more problems with # 6? Any recomendations for avoiding this in the future. Changing cams too often takes a lot of the fun out of flying!!!! Bill K

Re: cam

The lobe that went was the same on both cams. Blueldr might be on to something with the lifter as the engine sometimes would run slightly rough for a few miniutes after start up. I could never put my finger on the roughness as it was not related to the mags as it was slightly rough on right, left or...

I have had 2 cams go bad in 1000 hrs on my C145 and was wondering how common a problem this is. The first one went bad after the engine sat for some time but the second one a brand new one with new followers only lasted 600 hrs. This time the problem is on the front lobes may or may not be significa...

My engine is usually quite a bit tighter on shut down but it has never turned out to be a problem although like you I was initially quite concerned. Bill K

Re: Polishing wheel pants

As the owner of a polished 170 without wheel pants I have a few sugestions. First send the wheelpants up to me and I will find an appropriate way to care for them. :D :D :D If that dosent interest you I would check out Nuvite Chemicals web site as they have a lot of good educational material there. ...
