Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC
I am very happy with my O-360 conversion, but might have been tempted by this solution. To be honest the O-300 with the 80x42 was a great performer at sea level and light. A bit more horsepower at a smaller investment would have been very tempting. Interesting to see where this goes.

Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC
Displacement is the volume moved by the piston. Either the volume sucked in through the intake valve (assuming perfect conditions of course), the volume displaced by the piston on the compression stroke, or the volume pushed out through the exhaust valve. Simply bore cross sectional area x stroke (...

This is the displacement PLUS the volume of the combustion chamber at TDC.GAHorn wrote:..which is displacement…correct? (Not trying to argue the point…just trying to wrap my small mind around it.)daedaluscan wrote:The higher piston reduces the total volume of mixture in the cylinder….

Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC
The higher piston reduces the total volume of mixture in the cylinder. The piston is raised the same distance (stroke), the bore is unchanged and so the same volume of displacement but into a smaller combustion chamber. Hence the compression ratio is increased. Displacement is unchanged, compression...

Whenever I clear customs into the US I am met by a border agent with a Geiger counter. I think it’s SOP.

Re: Brakes,I need a break
When I upgraded to double puck ABI brakes I took my master cylinders out and rebuilt them. Not difficult at all and a satisfying amount of goob was sitting around the base of the cylinders. After adjusting the valve to specs they bled easily from the bottom with an oil can full of hydraulic fluid. I...

Re: Bearing compassion chart
I have always worried that not enough compassion was being shown to bearings:) I thought almost every bearing had a number stamped on it that described the bearing completely, including seals, etc. In the past I have simply bought the Timken equivalent. I know that this would not be legal on an airpl...

Excellent. Just when I think the intergoogleweb is the end of civilization I see a gem like this. Loved the design life of ten years!

Re: What are y'all using for push to talk?
I have the velcro, and although it is totally functional I don't like it. I have thought about a welded in tab, and may do that one day. I have also tried to come up with an elegant clamp on solution but have failed so far. I like it out in the corner of the yoke where I hold it with my left hand. M...

I know and old Alaskan pilot who has a spray bottle filled with car antifreeze. He flys a ragwing bushmaster. YMMV.

Guess I should have known that. Steel doesn't scare me the same way as corrosion from the inside out. Th 172 story is downright terrifying.

Re: Overhaul Quotes
My thought process was that an O-300 overhaul is about the same as an 0-360 overhaul. The cores have a similar value. The Delaire STC (15k usd) + labour + prop was the extra cost of the conversion and in today’s market an O-360 170B commands more than that over an O-300. I also just wanted the power.
