Re: '48 C170 Fuel Pump

Thanks, Poncho. I had my first conversation today with the local FSDO and the reception was more positive than expected. So, onward and upward. In the meantime, I'm hoping someone here can confirm the exit point of the fuel lines from the main tanks in the A and B models (i.e., from the center of th...

Re: '48 C170 Fuel Pump

Further to my earlier post, "zither" = late-night typo, not a type of fuel line. :-)

'48 C170 Fuel Pump

All~ I searched for several hours, but could not find an instance where a '48 C170 owner obtained a field approval to remove the mechanical fuel pump, check valve and fuel pressure gauge (by re-routing zither fuel lines down the aft door posts). If I have missed anything, please let me know. In the ...

Re: Securing your load

There are four attach clips on the cargo net that attach to four corresponding rings. On the top, the two inner rings are attached to the bolts in the spar that hold the BAS inertial reel harness and the outer rings to bolts in the upper part of the rear door posts. I don't think the attach points f...

Re: Securing your load

For the last nine years I have been using an Aircraft Cabin Organizer (aka cargo net) from Mountain Wave Aviation. It works very well and holds lots of stuff in a convenient location.

Thanks for posting. Anyone know the appropriate method of modifying the blast tube?

Re: Normal operating oil temps

Thx. I've never been able to locate the installation instructions. Nor does it appear as though my blast tube has been modified.

Re: Panel trim ring or bezel for '49 170A

Will take pix this evening. Then the trick will be posting them or getting them to you by alternate means.

Re: Panel trim ring or bezel for '49 170A

I have the OEM panel overlay from a '48, complete with bezels. Not sure of their condition, but if you'd like I can take pictures. I'd rather not part it out, but will be reasonable if you'd like the whole thing.

Re: 180 Gear vs Lady Legs

I take my '48 C170 with its original, so-called wet noodle, floppy landing gear legs all over the Idaho backcountry and have never had a problem with performance. I think upgrading to a later gear leg is great if you want to spend the money, but for me it's a no-brainer to keep the original. As with...

Thanks for the explanation. I do know that it does leak down over time.

Re: 48 fuel pressure

Color me embarrassed. As sure as I was that mine fell to zero after shutdown, here I am at a neighboring field for fuel looking at a 3.25 psi on my gauge approximately 20 minutes after shutdown. Sorry for the error.

Mine falls to just above zero right at at shutdown.
