If you look at the first picture you will see a piece of white fabric that is attached on one side to the wing and the other side is attached to the flap leading edge using two strips of aluminum. This loop of fabric is very well designed in that it has enough slack to allow the flap to move but it ...

Those are my thoughts exactly. I can not believe what I am seeing and my only conclusion is that at high angles of attack it may be funnelling air through there and actually forcing a seperation of air. My next step is to tuft an airplnae before and after and get some pictures. I would be sure to po...

First thing is that a 170 does not have balanced landing and takeoff distances. I typically use 150-200 ft more for take off. My first flight with the gap seal revealed balance conditions. At 2200' elevation and 65 degrees I was seeing landing distances around 360' without any wind or crazy braking ...

Flap Gap Seals, Performance Boost

http://www.supercub.org/albums/album15/abl.sized.jpg This is a picture of a fabric bellows style of gap seal. It was introduce in the 80's and never got any level of marketing, so it has just about gone away. It seals almost all of the air from passing through the gap while deployed. It has reveale...

Harold was right on, except the Airmasters should come before the 190/195. I am proud of you for not leaving them out.

http://www.supercub.org/albums/album15/abk.sized.jpg There is a little problem with camping on a dry lake bed. There isn't much privacy in the biffy! Fede, All the strips that we went into were from the 1000' to 1500' range except for the desert which was 10 miles at the very least. Elevations rang...

http://www.supercub.org/albums/album15/abd.sized.jpg Here is one from Rogersburg in Hell's Canyon. We went a lot of places and it was high, hot, short and we had 2 people, alot of gear and fuel and the airplane just does great. I can plan on 120 mph and 7.2 gph with my 7649 prop turning 2525 RPM. M...

This is the Dry lake Bed at the Alvord Desert. It was as cool as you'd expect and there is no way to take a bad picture.

How dumb can Kelly be?

This week I placed an ad to sell my 170 after getting it all done like I wanted, all because I thought I wanted a Super Cub. Then I had a photo shoot that took me on a two day trip of better than 1000 miles of backcountry. A cub would have been to small for the load we carried and it would have been...

I would be interested in signing up for the new prop and I could put money up front with some kind of agreement. I think that a prop like that would keep me from selling the 170 in the future. I would never put in a big engine because I'd rather spend the money and step up to a 180 like I used to ha...

Vic, I would also tell you that your climb performance isn't as good as it could be. If you pull the nose up it will climb slower. Lower the nose and let the RPM's come up and the VSI will show better and with the increased speed the engine will run cooler. I set my climb speed by RPM and I like to ...

Eric, I painted the Ying Yangs after it came back and I have plans to take the Tailwheel back to gray as I asked that they not paint it. The rest is just like I wanted. I need to come over and explore some of your region and would love to lead you into a few good spots. This sand bar has now disappe...

OK, The short version! For those of you from Texas you will know the spots. It's about 85 miles or so. My boss and I were going to Lake Texoma from Denton Muni. I was loading my girlfriend in the Chief as he said, "Do you want to race?" I said Yes while hand propping and then I jump in and...
