Tailwheel Steering Spring Kit

Guys,
The tailwheel spring kit I ordered from Air Repair (3239) is labeled
“Note: For Use With Scott 3200 (8” pneumatics) Tail Wheel Assembly”. I don’t think I have an 8” tailwheel – Is this the correct spring kit for my 170?

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?

Bought a new tailwheel leaf spring set, eyebolt with steel locknut, correct tailwheel steering spring set, U bolt with nuts, leaf spring bushing and spacer.
Also ordered a little baffling piece that goes between the cylinders that was missing.

Re: The 170 News

Its all good, but my favorite is the the excellent article on the Scott 3200 Tail Wheel. (Im a bit fixated on the tailwheel....

The 170 News

Another great issue of The 170 News. Thanks to all who work on it. A special shout out to Bruce Fenstermacher for the excellent article on the Scott 3200 Tail Wheel. I'm prepairing to to install new leaf springs and hardware so the article was perfect timing.

Tailwheel Leaf Spring Advice

The nagging worry of breaking a tailwheel leaf spring prompted me to look through the logs to see when the main leaf spring was last changed and inspect my tailwheel overall. I found no log entry for a leaf spring change. So I decided to order a new main leaf spring to be safe. Upon inspecting my ta...

Re: Missing baffling part?

Yes my engine is running a little hot. I'll check the left side cylinders to determine how many baffles I need to order. I would make the part myself but as a new pilot and owner I have no (scrap) aluminum to work with... I'll also order a new oil temp gauge and the correct tail wheel steering sprin...

Missing baffling part?

Guys, After reviewing a photo of my right side cylinders I noticed a baffling separator is missing (between the cylinder heads). Aircraft Spruce lists 4 required (AF0550117 BAFFLE COMPONENT Part #: 05-03034 Mfr Part #: AF0550117 Special Order). Is there a good reason this part would have been remove...

Thanks Aryana! I'll skip the C of C and live with the weight penalty.

Re: High Oil Temp?

Guys,
I've patched and tightened my engine baffling, switched to straight 50 weight oil and about to order the recommended oil temp gauge pictured below. Aircraft Spruce offers a "C of C" for an extra $15. Is this document necessary?
Thanks, JP

Re: Purchase STC SA7441SW

Oil gauge rods are SPECIFIC TO THE AIRFRAME...not the engine. The most important point is to change your oil.... put the appropriate amount of oil in it...and NOTE the oil level on YOUR PRESENT DIPSTICK...and use THAT information for future reference. It might be a nice thing to place a note to the...

Re: High Oil Temp?

George, Thanks for the reply. I have done a lot of reading on our forum about this issue and I'm feeling better about it. Today I bought Aeroshell 100W and a new filter so I'll switch to 50 weight oil this weekend. I tightened my baffling today and identified two small leaks to repair this weekend a...

Re: High Oil Temp?

The blast tubes as mentioned have to point at the oil screen area of the accessory case at the lower arrow. If it isn't the oil temp will likely read high. Blast tube.png You have an A model. I'm finding most run cooler than B models. Curious how deep your cowl lip is between the red lines in the p...
