A good tip I picked up somewhere (probably on this site) is when leaning on the ground always lean enough so that when you advance the throttle to more than 1300 rpm's or so the engine dies. That way you can't forget to go rich on takeoff. John, I never heard that advise, but it seams to be good pr...

Re: Leaning Procedure

, My IA said his method of leaning, learned from yrs in the Air Force, was to get to crusing altitude, turn one mag off (not sure why one mag off is better than having both "ON"), lean until the engine began to lose rpm & get rough, then enrichen the mixture until the engine smoothed o...

William Halford,
I can't beleve that for two weeks I missed your post! I agree with you 100%. You couldn't get me to smoke in an aircraft if you held a gun to my head! But still I have an issue with the NTSB tox. report! What's your thoughts.

Bruce,
I can't think of any SB, off the top of my head that calls for the breather mod. I think that it has just become a precautionary thing that a lot of people have opted to preform. I realy can't see where it could hurt :D

Carb heat war stories should probably be put on another link. But anyway, when I was in flight school, in the late 80's a friend of mine from Britan, took up his favorite 152 for a sunday morning ride (to build time). While practicing comm. manevers, he started loosing power, he pulled carb. heat to ...

During my last annual, my mechanic and I drilled the vent hole in the breather tube as outlined in the AD. Since then I have noticed an oil mist on the cowl which seems to be coming from the drilled hole. As a result, I taped it closed. Robert, What engine do you have? I have the hole in my O-300 a...

82-07-02 covers aircraft with Lycoming conversions, but putting the hole in an O-300 or C-145 vent tube can't hurt.

Re: Front Seat Skirt

Does anybody have a template or pattern for the skirts that wrap around the bottom of the front seats. I think they are all the same, but mine is a '53. It would be nice to cover some of the structure up down there. My wife is laughing while I'm writing this by the way. Thanks. I think I have all t...

Interesting afternoon

Well I had an intersting afternoon. The Livingston Co. Sheriff just left the shop. At noon while I was in for lunch I got a call from a real estate agent from Ca. looking for Mike Shafer at my address (she back looked my address for my phone number). We talked a bit and decided that she was getting ...

Unless I am missing something, I can't see where TCP came into action on the NTSB report that John was so good to forward to all of us. What I read was the autopisy report said that there was no touleen in the lungs of either people. this seames to be the only low flash point product in TCP, and sho...

Re: Living Will

The wife and I recently was discussing us having a Living Will. Last night, my wife and I were sitting in the living room and I said to her,I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug." She got up, unp...

All I ask is for the aircraft to come out of this better than it went in, I owe it this much. I hope it dosn't come to a pi##ing contest between the airport and my insurance co with me in the middle. I think what it comes down to here is who is the damaged party, Heck my 170 was napping Peacifully ...

I still see no reason for concern, since you proved that the left tank will feed properly alone,... therefore if running on both...it will also still feed even should the right tank become dry. Unless you pulll a hard turn, and pull the fuel away from the good tank and have no fuel in the other :oo...
