Garmin has the Pilot3 Gps that will mount to the top of the dash and costs $495. The install is easy and it can be hooke to the airplane bus very easily. The antenna is on it, so no running of coax, etc. If you had a reliable source of navigation you'd leave the map in the glove box. The 170 doesn't...

Most of the glues that are available do not hold up to the heat that builds up on the cabin top. I had a 3M rep here at the office today and we looked through his catalog for temp specs. Spray80 is a spray on contact cement that will be easy to use and holds up to 200 deg F. Most spray adhesives fro...

I think almost all wing covers bunch up or do something crazy in the wind. There are two solutions that I know of. 1) Turn the airplane downwind, that will keep the covers in place as long as you can live with your airplane downwind. 2) Remove the covers because frost will not collect if its windy. ...

With Federal skis it is common for the spring tension tostart to toe in the skis. This is normal, if they are loose all the time it might be time for new rubber sleeves. I saw a guy was advertising those parts on Barnstormers2000.com. Spring vs. Bungee, in my opinion the bungee is the reason behind ...

Atlee Dodge has the spacers setting on the shelf waiting for you to call. I think he wants 15 dollars a piece. That's alot in my opinion but if you don't have the material or a Lathe it can save you some headaches. The solid aluminum axles can be used for wheels as well as long as you have these spa...

George,
What do you think of replacing the springs and adding another of the long springs? I thought for rough airstrips and off airport scenarios it might be wise. You could remove one of the shorter springs so they'd all fit. A longer bolt to the tailwheel casting would be neccesary as well.

Float Kit Installation
I have a 1954 170B and I'm looking for drawings for installing a float kit. I can do the work, I'm an A&P/IA. I just need help finding the info. I know about lifting eyes and V-braces, I don't know about stiffeners and doublers.
I would appreciate any help, and will trade for good info. Kelly
