Re: Need Fig.25-24, p/n 0512108-5 Bulkhead Assembly Angle -

Jim, Your aircraft was the first one I had noticed the slotted holes. After having received the photos of the that the association owns, that made 2 out of 3 slotted. I had 3 other 170's and a Bird Dog in the hangar at the time. 2 of 4 were slotted. Since I noticed yours, that makes 4 out of 7 slott...

Re: Need Fig.25-24, p/n 0512108-5 Bulkhead Assembly Angle -

The rudder has 3 hinge points. 2 are on the vertical stab, the lower point is on the fuselage aft bulkhead. These slotted holes allow the entire stabilizer assembly (vertical and horizontal) to be moved fore/aft so that all 3 rudder hinges points can be aligned perfectly. Then the forward spar of th...

Re: Logbook Entries for PMA Parts

Del - Apparently you can be one step closer to printing entries directly into logbooks. This looks neat! https://www.facebook.com/thisisinsiderdesign/videos/358321447842824/ Probably will not work in a booklet-type setting too well, but it's still cool! All I get is audio (elevator music), and no v...

Re: New forum member

Jean, WELCOME...and please allow me to add my opinions to this conversation. The '48 fabric wing version (sometimes referred to as a "ragwing") has some internal wing parts which are virtually impossible to find, and if damaged, will have to be custom manufactured. The approval processes ...

Re: Prop hit !!!

Another interesting observation is most reject cranks happen at low or idle power rather than full power. I have a theory on this and I'm sure the engineers among us can explain this better than I can. I'd love to hear the explanation for that. I would have guessed it to be the other way around. I ...

Re: Prop hit !!!

Personally I would never knowingly fly behind an engine that had experienced a prop strike engine stoppage. Yes the engine can be rebuilt and run just fine. But it suffered the "shock" of stoppage. Engine still has great value and is in demand for some one building a new airboat or replac...

Re: Logbook Entries for PMA Parts

I recently started scanning the logbooks for 56D. Most of them weren't too cluttered with staples and the like, but honestly, my big pet peeve are self-adhesive stickers. they triple the thickness of the book. Understand fully why people insist on using them, but some sort of heat transfer entry si...

Re: Logbook Entries for PMA Parts

The FAA began "incorporation by reference" a long time ago. We can use it too. It keeps the logs clean, easy to follow, easy to research and etc. If more detailed info is needed, then you can pull out the 5lb bag that contains 10lbs of

Re: Cessna 100 Years

I would advise anyone expecting their 170 to fly on its 100th birthday to start hoarding engine parts..... Surely that is an anecdote about your well-deserved airframe capabilities rather than a true belief engine parts are endangered. This engine is one of the most numerous (numbering in the tens-...

Re: Pain

You aren't the first or the last. We have a past president of the association that posted a selfie of his "FTE diamond plate tattoo" about 10 years ago. I installed the McFarlane trailing edge stiffeners to prevent a future occurrence. It must have worked for him.

Re: What do I buy

The 170 is the predecessor to the 172. A 170-B is virtually the exact same airplane as an early 172 except it's on conventional gear. This allows you to walk away from successful landings with a more sophisticated swagger and makes lesser tricycle-pilots and all the girls look at you with great env...

Re: Cessna 100 Years

But won't that day be a very big day! To be the first to fly a 100 year old Cessna 170 Those of us with 48's will have first crack at it! But I'll be 93........ John Miller was still very healthy, active, and piloting at that age. Haven't checked lately, but I think he became the worlds oldest pilo...

Re: Cessna 100 Years

I would advise anyone expecting their 170 to fly on its 100th birthday to start hoarding engine parts. I believe we, and many others, have established our ability to support these airframes. Technology favors continued support and improved instrumentation and avionics. I think availability of servic...
