Re: Fuel vent relocation to wing

God forbid you didn't comply with the service bulletin that didn't work to begin with, but found a way to eliminate the problem anyway using Cessnas parts. That's probably like having TWO vented caps on the wing tanks instead of just one. 8O My 170 A had a problem of fuel venting out of the goose ne...

Re: Rudder/Elevator Tip Assemblies

Are the people painting their elevators and rudders, rebalancing their surfaces? We found that ours didn't fall in the balance area and had to modify the weights in the elevator tips accordingly. My point being the weights might have to be changed anyway if you are rebuilding or painting. Jon

Re: Wire

The size and lengths of wire required to completely rewire your plane to stock configuration are in the parts manual. The only draw back is you have to do the math, (add each length of wire together for each particular use). In otherwords add all of the 22 guage, all the 20 guage, etc., to get your ...

Re: QUestion on installing side windows

The good thing was I didn't get them in backwards! If you put the right one on the left side and the left one on the right side, when you are looking out, are you really looking in? :? Jon

Re: QUestion on installing side windows

I have put in rear windows both ways. Screws and nuts are the way to go. You don't need two people to do that project either way. I would also suggest using one size thicker plexiglas than what was original. Jon

Re: A little instrument panel clean out

Don't toss that stall warning light and buzzer. They are easy to take apart and fix. look at your parts cat. and be careful while you take it apart. Look at earlier threads on the subject and look at the replacement costs! Just a thought as you go through the panel. Jon

Re: Performance changes with Constant Speed Prop

Jaime, I have the 80" prop and STC from David Stoots on my '53B with a Delair Lyc 0-360 STC. My plane is heavy, (lots of mods) and no STOL kit. The top speed is increased but not a whole lot. The change is in the take-off power. Take off distance is shortened and the climb out is much better. E...

Re: Total Re-Wire

Bruce, When we refurbished our plane, I rewired the complete plane. I built a new panel using Delairs STC, so I can't speak to just replacing old with new, with an original panel, but the rewiring its'self, (is that a word? :? ), is not that hard. Time consuming, yes, but not hard. I went to CBs and...

Re: Weight & Balance

By the way Bruce, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to publish your W&B packages for the rest of us. I know it takes alot of time and effort to put these things together. Your efforts are highly appreciated. Jon

Re: Weight & Balance

Bruce,
In looking at your W&B w/ Javelin fuel tank, I see you put in there, (15 gal max). I believe my Jav. tank holds 18 gals. Is there some reason for the 15 gal max? Just curious. Am I missing something? Thank you. Jon

Re: The first aircraft flight by the Wright Brothers.

Thanks Richard. I didn't think of Googling it. Duh! I was thinking that in the articles I read, that he was a school teacher, but it has been a while since I read them. His great granddaughter had quite a few articles and copies of paperwork. on the subject. to substantiate the claims. Jon

Re: The first aircraft flight by the Wright Brothers.

Just to add to the original theme of the first flight, there was a man in Fredricksberg, Tx, who claimed to have flown before the Wright brothers. There is a statue of him there, but I cannot recall his name. I was made aware of this by his great granddaughter, whom I worked with here at City Hall, ...

Re: The first aircraft flight by the Wright Brothers.

Yup, your right. Hadn't seen it in a while, and forgot it was the corvair. Still kind of a neet old van. Brings back memories of "the Lil Red Wagon", wheelie van. I think that is what it was called. It's hell getting older. At least only the memory is the first thing to go  ! Jon

Re: The first aircraft flight by the Wright Brothers.

Showboatsix, My brother-in-law has a Ford truck, (van)?, just like yours in his back yard shed. If I'm not mistaking part of the right-side panel folds down for access to the bed of the truck. Jon
