Re: carburetor problems

My previous response was assuming there was insufficient flow from the discharge nozzle. The 100 Series Service manual, in the troubleshooting guide on pg. 12-4, gives three possibilities for “Engine Does Not Accelerate Properly” 1. Idle mixture set too lean 2. Defective or badly adjusted accelerati...

Re: O-300A vs O-300D identification

Are you saying that the FAA doesn't have record of the Sportsman STOL kit being installed? You have checked here, right? How to see Aircraft Records, Mantenance, Registration and so much more, FREE and instantly If there is no record of the STC in the files but it is documented in the airframe logbo...

Re: carburetor problems

If there is no fuel coming out the pump discharge tube, the first thing I would check is the pump inlet screen, p/n 95-54. The associated gasket is p/n 16-A16. If that is clean, I would then check the pump inlet check valve (p/n 36-525) and the pump discharge check valve (p/n 36-540). The associated...

Re: Cracked Vertical Stab Bracket

How would you sheetmetal gurus drill the holes in this fitting? It's obviously critical that the holes be accurately drilled. No room for a strap duplicator. As this fitting sandwiches the skin, the holes can't be backdrilled. The only way I see is to make a jig using the removed fitting to accurate...

Re: How To Remove Vertical Stab?

Gary Do you think it would be good to check and document the rudder balance before stripping the paint? I know people have been surprised how far the balance is off AFTER the job is done. This way there will have a baseline on the balance when it was flying. Dan Absolutely. My recommendation would ...

Re: How To Remove Vertical Stab?

Harlow’s advise is good. I might add that if you strip and repaint the rudder it needs to be rebalanced.

Re: Restoration Questions

Ryan, That's very generous of you to offer your drafting services. Thanks! I'm sure you and Brian are not the only ones in the Association that have these skills that the rest of us envy. What I'd love to see is a section in the Mx Library with a C-170 part number listing of CAD drawings that you al...

Re: Restoration Questions

Ryan, Thanks for online metal fabricating leads. Now what do you all do for a CAD program? I'm not paying $2030/year for an AutoCAD subscription. This really is a baffling question. Here are a couple of random thoughts: -Don't know if you're going with a Tempest oil filter or not. Cessna Acce...

Re: Cracked Vertical Stab Bracket

Reece, -Good catch on finding the crack. I would suggest stripping the paint there to confirm that it is not just the paint that is cracked. Quite unlikely that it is just the paint but wouldn't hurt to check. If the one side is cracked it would be worth your time to strip the paint from the other o...

Re: Restoration Questions

I drew up an adapter that holds 10 P&B fuses and had an online service cut and bend me two of them out of .040" aluminum. Total cost was $31 shipped to my door (and they threw in a third copy for free). Considering the time it would take to fab that up, $31 seems quite reasonable. Could yo...

AD 2011-10-09 (g)(4)(iii): Do not lubricate the rollers, washers, or axles because the lubricant will attract dust and other particles that may cause binding. McFarlane “rollers are fabricated from molydisulfide filled nylon for improved strength and self-lubrication.” Here's a short article on how...

Re: 0-300 NEW STYLE Accessory Case

Bruce, This accessory case part number rabbit hole makes my head spin. Based on pictures you've probably seen on FB, I was incorrect to assume the accessory case you initially pictured had to be an IO-360 accessory case. Here's a couple of screenshots of a NOS accessory case with casting # 641495, a...
