Re: DO NOT Slip with Full Flaps
There is a longer discussion of this if you search for NTSB Final Report: Bruce and Kathy Rymes accident -- I cant seem to make it link.
Includes some first hand accounts from those that recovered in time.

Re: where is the line in the sand ?
Thanks for highlighting. Then, Ghostflyer’s example would not be considered a repair because the damaged center fuselage section (primary structure) containing the data plate needed replacement? I guess these “repairs” do happen with some frequency out of financial necessity, or in some cases ingen...

Re: where is the line in the sand ?
So if the serial number follows the paperwork rather than some specific part of an airframe, does there need to be a line in the sand? As long as the records are complete, the data tag on an airplane is the thing that tells you which records are attached to that airplane. As long as the records are ...

Re: Tailwheel steering cable issue
Anyone have any insight into why Cessna changed to this setup in 55?
The previous design is lighter, simpler, cheaper, more accessible, etc.

Re: Need recommendations for ADSB In
I have the Dynon DRX for ADS-B in. (Garmin GDL-82 for ADS-B out)
Small self-contained brick. with a 2 inch folding antenna. I just put it on the glareshield forward of the compass.
Connects seamlessly to the iPad/Foreflight with wi fi.

Re: Baby bushwheel on 8.5 mains?
I suppose the T3 would add even more weight back there if that's what you really want. I would be more inclined to try to find ways to loose weight to correct CG issues then adding weight to correct CG. Especially if you don't actually need the benefits of the BBW or the bling of the T3. These plan...

Re: Baby bushwheel on 8.5 mains?
The only reasons to have a baby bushweel: 1. You will operate on very rough ground including bumps, rocks, ruts etc. 2. You will operate on soft ground, including sand, beaches, mud etc. 90% of the benefit is purely for taxiing in 1 or 2. If those are in you future, then do it. “Baby” that tail as ...

Re: Black stuff on inside walls of fuselage
It's faster and cheaper to replace the skin(s) than to remove the goo. I'm pretty sure MIL-H-5606 dissolves it, but makes a bigger mess and apparently takes a few decades. With a shop and skills like yours, that's probably true. For many of us, the long days of huffing MEK and scraping are probably...

Re: AOPA Sweepstakes aircraft: Cessna 170B
To restore to stock or to modify? I'm firmly in the 'do whatever you want' camp with your 170. (mostly thinking of 170Bs) When there are enough of a type flying that are reasonably original I don't think we need to keep them all that way. There are PLENTY of flying examples of this type that are mos...

Re: AOPA Sweepstakes aircraft: Cessna 170B
I find the rudder very effective. Considering it’s the same one on C-190/ 195s, of considerably more horsepower, perhaps it’s a little too much. I note that the -170C was to have had a smaller one. Same rudder but the 195 it has a longer fuselage - a longer lever - by 3 feet or so... I have never f...

Re: AOPA Sweepstakes aircraft: Cessna 170B
That's the coolest sweepstakes airplane yet (personal bias showing through) I'm not sure how the ineffective rudder made the sub headline from this: "As I taxied to the end of the runway, I immediately noticed the ineffectiveness of the rudder." Yep, the rudder is ineffective while taxiing...

Re: New high wing Vans.
I expect a that Van's will continue to do what Van' does best. High quality, easy to build kits with prepunched and preformed parts, excellent factory support, excellent performance, comfort and handling, slabby sides and a hershey bar wing. This will perform well and it will sell well. It would not...

Re: Very informal study of 170 sales.
My airplane is now worth more money than I have put into it. First time in 23 years that's happened.
My current hull insurance will now only cover about half what I can think I could sell it for.
Avgas is now $7.80/gallon at my home field.
No. It's not for sale.
