Not that it matters at this late date, but I think they used an out-of-date 337. I have a 337 that sounds like the one you describe, it was filled out in 1952. The date under "Form ACAS-337" in the top LH corner is (11-48 ). The next 337 in my file was filled out in 1955, the bottom RH cor...

The older I get, the squarer I get. Also the rounder I get. I don't know if that's an oxymoron, a contradiction, or a riddle.
One thing hasn't changed, though: "I AM the man from nantucket...."

From what I hear, the value (price) of a good paint job (including stripping) is probably more than half the cost of an engine overhaul, unless you were replacing a lot of sub-spec or failed engine parts. I've heard 7-8 grand as a ballpark number. At least one member here has had a paint job done re...

Are they the same shape and therefore apparently the same part? The early 172 used "bow-tie" shaped yokes as opposed to the 170's "prone-D" shaped yokes. I have a set of the bow-ties in my ragwing and really prefer them to the original 170 yokes. Better looking and more ergonomic...

Jim, on that 337, how is the installation approved? Who signed off the "Approval for return to service" in Box 6? The way I understand it, an IA can sign off a change that is approved by TCDS, or a change approved by STC-- but a CAA rep had to sign off anything else, which would be a so-ca...

Hang onto your hats-- I'm with George on this one! (I think). The blast tubes are blowing on the oil screen housing of the accessory case. They are cooling the oil there. All the oil goes thru there, so all the oil is getting cooled, however slightly. Just because that's where the temp bulb is doesn...

Glad you're doing well, Rudy, I hope you're re-medicalized soon. I also read the item in the EAA e-newslatter about verifying registration info. I have to assume that there will be a mailing from the feds about this, if action is required on my part. They don't mind mailing me notices about AD's on ...

Looks like they took a 180/185 nose as well as a 185 tail and stuck them on a Birddog. Looks like a constant-speed prop including a 180-style spinner, as well as cowl flaps. Interesting that this airplane is circa 1956, the 185 with it's big tail didn't come out until 1961 or so. There mighta been s...

The L19/O1/C-305 had a Cont O-470-11 or -13 engine. Maybe the -11 was mistaken for a roman numeral 2. Never seen a Birddog with 180/185 tailfeathers. I did see an article about one they hung a turboprop on, though, as well as a boundary-layer-control research Birddog that had leading/trailing edge t...

Dave, that reminds me of a line from a George Strait song, something about "oceanfront property in Arizona".
You mean to tell me, with all that sand you got down there, there's no beaches?

I have one that covers the hole in front of the crankcase. I dont know if its factory or aftermarket. Speaking of cool weather, at what OAT should a C145/O300 be preheated? Im using multigrade. I run XC20-50. I've been preheating lately, as it's been getting down below freezing at night and not get...

I remember George talking about some kerosene-burner he flew in which that gizmo picked on him, kept calling him a retard or something like that. :P I don't think I'd like that.

Greg, are you using the original top-hinging upper and lower cowlings for this pressure cowl installation? Or a later 170/172/175 cowling?
